Cyclobenzaprine: Muscles
built 646 days ago
Cyclobenzaprine comes under the category of muscle relaxants. Muscle relaxant such as Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) has ... been studied in the treatment of fibromyalgia. In a study of 120 fibromyalgia patients, those receiving Cyclobenzaprine (10 to 40 mg) over a 12 week period had significantly improved quality of sleep and pain score. There was a trend towards improvement in fatigue symptoms but not in duration of morning stiffness. Interestingly, there was also a reduction in the total number of tender points and muscle tightness. It is also prescribed off-label as a sleep-aid.

Controlled clinical studies show that Cyclobenzaprine significantly improves the signs and symptoms of skeletal muscle spasm as compared with placebo. The clinical responses include improvement in muscle spasm as determined by palpation, reduction in local pain and tenderness, increased range of motion, and less restriction in activities of daily living. When daily observations were made, clinical improvement was observed as early as the first day of therapy.

Cyclobenzaprine is the generic form of Flexeril. Cyclobenzaprine treats pain and stiffness of muscle spasms. This medication belongs to a class of drugs called muscle relaxants. You should not use Cyclobenzaprine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to carisoprodol, meprobarnate (Miltown®), or tybamate (Tybatran®).

Cyclobenzaprine is a CNS depressant and skeletal muscle relaxant. It is effective at relieving muscle spasms of local origin without interfering with muscle function but is ineffective in treating muscle spasms due to cns disease. It is ... prescribed as a sleep-aid.

Cyclobenzaprine reduced or abolished skeletal muscle hyperactivity in several animal models. Animal studies indicate that cyclobenzaprine does not act at the neuromuscular junction or directly on skeletal muscle. Such studies show that cyclobenzaprine acts primarily within the central nervous system at brain stem as opposed to spinal cord levels, although its action on the latter may contribute to its overall skeletal muscle relaxant activity. Evidence suggests that the net effect of cyclobenzaprine is a reduction of tonic somatic motor activity, influencing both gamma (gamma) and alpha (alpha) motor systems.

Flexeril... called Cyclobenzaprine, is used to help relax certain muscles in your body. It helps relieve the pain, stiffness, and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, or injuries to your muscles. Flexeril acts on the central nervous system (CNS) for its effects.
