Cults are not from the masses, they are made by members of the middle class: the engineers, the nurses, the overseas workers. Middle class highly educated people who still believe in a utopic society that they hope to be a part of. The leader doesn't have to be charismatic. And really Ecleo is riding the coattails of his father who did have the charisma. But what blinds people to cults is the disillusionment of society of government. Their members believe in the good that they do, but this good is separate from the corruption of their leaders.

Cults are challenges to conventional society. As such, they engender intense questions concerning their possible impact. The modern cults have clearly raised anew the legal issue of how far a society is willing to go to guarantee religious freedom. Cults promote false teaching on the nature of God. The Bible teaches there is one God revealed in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The central feature that distinguishes cults from biblical Christianity is the doctrine of the Trinity. All cults have a distorted view of this doctrine. For example, the Jehovah's Witnesses condemn the doctrine of the Trinity, and Mormons teach tritheism, three gods who make up the godhead.
