These Christian cross tattoos are rather complex, many involve a tattooed image of a saint, Jesus, or the Virgin Mary. Hispanic tattoos often have words, as well, usually a Bible verse, perhaps accompanied by a loved one's name. Many Mexican gang members have multiple sophisticated tattoos, allowing the individual to literally wear his identity and emotions on his skin, if not his sleeve!

One of the most popular Celtic symbols is the Tattoo Cross. For years, Celtic culture ruled most of Europe; more specifically Ireland and Britain. They brought Christianity to Britain, adopted the ancient Celtic style of art, and infused with symbolism of Christianity (a conversion that stuck). Cross - supposedly way back in the Crusades, Christian knights had little crosses tattooed on their hands so that if they fell in battle, their wish for a Christian burial would be known. Whether large or small, ornate or plain, on public view or hidden, a cross emblem is probably the most popular Christian tattoo.
