Cristie Kerr: Tournaments
built 624 days ago
During the summer, when she’s not playing in tournaments, Kerr and Stevens stay at their apartment in New York City and at her brother’s house in Westport, Connecticut. “We’re sort of vagabonds,” says Kerr, who employs a private service to look after the home when they’re away.
The Official Field reads like a who's-who list with some of the brightest stars in the LPGA Tour in hot pursuit of Kerr. 2005 rookie Paula Creamer will attempt to not only win the event but to gain much needed Rolex Rookie of the Year and Solheim Cup points. Hometown girl Natalie Gulbis enters the tournament this week with back-to-back top-20 finishes, including a tie for eighth earlier this season at the Safeway International.

"There's a natural progression between winning and winning a lot of tournaments and when are you going to win a major," Kerr said after her 1-under 70. "I definitely wanted to win one this year."
As with the 2001 Cabernet, this is a pretty good time in the life of Kerr. The current titleholder of the U.S. Women's Open and the No. 6 golfer in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, Kerr has accrued close to $8 million in prize money during her 11-year career, and holds lucrative endorsement contracts with businesses ranging from insurer Mutual of Omaha and sportswear designer Lacoste to super-luxe French watchmaker Audemars Piguet. She flies to and from tournaments on private jets, has a closet full of designer shoes and counts such movers and shakers as Donald Trump among her friends.
