Cristie Kerr: Ties
built 624 days ago
Cristie Kerr took up golf at age eight, and by age 12 she was a 2-handicap. She won the Florida State Junior Girls Championship from 1993-95, and was the American Junior Golf Association player of the year in 1995 following a season in which she won the Women's Western Amateur, the Florida State Women's Championship, and at age 18 decided to forego college and turn pro.
This is not to suggest that Wie is being victimized similarly and needs to cut ties with her parents, but it would behoove her to study Kerr's career path and commit to one avenue. Maybe it's college. But if it is pro golf, then it should strictly be the LPGA Tour. It seems foolhardy for Wie to continue this on-again, off-again fascination with men's events and to treat the LPGA Tour like a sort of playground when she feels like playing.

Kerr started playing golf at the age of eight. She had a very successful amateur career, won the 1994 Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship[1] and was the 1995 American Junior Golf Association Junior Player of the Year.[2] In 1996 she played in the Curtis Cup[3][4] and was the low amateur at the U.S. Women's Open. She graduated from Miami Sunset High School in West Kendall, Florida.[5]
When Cristie feels her technique is sound, she spends all of her energy on where she wants to land the ball. In these pictures you can see Cristie studying her landing area. If she can hit her spot, she has a great chance of holing out.
On return to Spain, the prestigious guitarist of classical flamenco José María Elegant asked Cristie to form part of his group, La Maestranza, and to act in the Bienal of Flamenco of Seville. This same month, Cristie presented herself to the castings of Operacion Triunfo, entering the Academy of Artists. When Cristie was voted out after 6 weeks, they started to work together again, which resulted in the release of Puro Teatro in 2004.

This major was a long time coming for Kerr, a pioneer of sorts for women who now routinely skip college. She turned pro when she graduated high school, won in her sixth year on tour and has not finished out of the top five on the LPGA money list the last three years.
