Into the greens, Kerr needed anywhere from three to five clubs more than the men had during Sunday's final round. She used a 5-wood from 200 yards after her only weak drive of the round, and another 5-wood from the same distance on the 465-yard, uphill 18th. She hit another approach with a 7-wood and three second shots with 4-irons. On two of the four par 3s, she hit 3-irons.

Ochoa made a bogey at 17, and with a two-shot lead Kerr split the fairway on the par-4 18th and began a long and joyous walk down the length of the hole. The sky, for a change, was Carolina blue after a week marred by thunderstorms.

Kerr and Jeon, a 22-year-old from Seoul, matched pars for the first six extra holes. Jeon finally made the first critical mistake when she hit her second shot on the par-4, 412-yard 16th far over the green.
