Cristie Kerr kisses the trophy she received for winning the LPGA Longs Drugs Challenge at the Twelve Bridges Golf Club in Lincoln, Calif., Sunday, April 21, 2002. Kerr finished with a four-day total of 8-under-par 280. This was Kerr's first win on the LPGA tour. It's clear that she REALLY loves the trophy.

Cristie Kerr founded Birdies for Breast Cancer, Inc., a Florida-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. Having been deeply affected by her mother's painful struggle to recovery, Cristie wanted to do whatever she could to fight the disease. Birdies for Breast Cancer was formed for the purpose of supporting breast cancer research. Cristie donates $50 for every birdie she makes on Tour and raises money from individuals and corporations who pledge donations for every birdie she records on Tour.

Last year's tournament was the most exciting to date, with Cristie Kerr shooting a Tournament record 14-under-par to outlast three-time champion Annika Sorenstam. It appeared that Sorenstam would have little trouble in her quest for her fourth title when she shot a seven-under-par 64 to take a two stroke lead after the first round. However, Kerr fired back with a course record 10-under-par 61 in the second round and followed with a 68 in the final round to beat Sorenstam by two strokes.

Cristie Kerr has emerged as one of the game's premier female athletes. After an extraordinary amateur career Cristie joined the LPGA Tour, where she quickly ascended to the upper echelon of the sport. Cristie was fifth on the official 2004 LPGA money list, becoming only the tenth golfer in history to earn over $1,000,000 in a season. Cristie had her best season yet in 2004 with eleven top-ten placements including three tour victories.

Getting a handle on Cristie Kerr is a lot like playing catch with a cactus. You may be able to grasp it, but at a price. In 11 years on tour, Kerr has ticked off a who's-who list of LPGA players, but the few close to her are extremely devoted. She has a remarkable ability to say the wrong thing, mostly because when they built this woman they forgot to install the edit button. She can be extremely self-centered, perhaps because there were times in her life when she lived on an underpopulated island of one. As an amateur, she was the overweight kid with glasses from humble means trying to figure out which fork to use in the country-club world of junior golf.

The hallmarks of Kerr's game are putting; she finished in the top 5 on the LPGA Tour in putts/greens hit in 2005 and 2006 and iron play. She was 5th in greens-in-regulation in 2005. She is ... among the longest hitters on the tour, though the other players have caught up to her in recent years. In 2003, Kerr switched to newer Callaway Golf equipment after playing with the same clubs for the previous seven years, and the move coincided with a sharp increase in wins and earnings on tour. In 2005, Kerr finished in the top 10 in half of the tournaments she entered, and ranked second in the LPGA in scoring average, trailing only Annika Sörenstam.
