Cristie Kerr: Lorena Ochoa
built 624 days ago
Cristie Kerr played beautifully on the back 9 on Sunday to win the U.S. Open, even though she was fighting her swing all weekend. Meanwhile, Lorena Ochoka had a bad case of the pull hooks off the tee again down the stretch. That recurring swing flaw will haunt her just as the slice did Phil Mickelson off the tee. Maybe it's time for her to call Butch, too.

With a final-round of 1-under-par 70, Kerr finished the championship at 5-under-par 279. She ended two shots ahead of the 18-year-old Park, who shot 70, and Ochoa (71) on a warm day that included the morning completion of the third round. Ochoa and Park will have to wait to win their first majors.

Kerr hit a draw around the dogleg left into the fairway, leaving her only a 7-iron to the green. Ochoa, as she did in the morning, tried to hammer a driver over the trees, but the ball nicked the top of the trees, dropping into a bunker. Ochoa caught her fairway metal heavy and moved it only 60 yards, hit a solid shot to 20 feet but missed the par putt.
Kerr said she was left with only a 7-iron to the green. Ochoa, meanwhile, yanked her drive, the ball hitting tree limbs and falling into a bunker. She then topped her bunker shot into the rough, taking a bogey that ended her Open chances.
Kerr's draw around the dogleg left into the fairway left her only a 7-iron to the green. Ochoa tried to hammer a driver over the trees, but the ball nicked the top of them. It fell into a bunker, and she knocked it out with a 5-wood.
