This style, which was more or less concurrent with the Arts and Crafts style, was not at all concerned with the social reform movements of the day. Instead, it addressed the clutter and eclecticism of mid-19th century European taste. Originating in Belgium and France, this movement advocated nature as the true source of all good design. Art Nouveau designers objected to the borrowing of design ideas from the past, and even from other cultures, although the Japanese approach to nature was much admired and emulated.

Since its inception in 1983, Camp Sunshine has provided programs throughout the year to give children with cancer the opportunity to enjoy normal activities like swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, and making friends. The program is free of charge to families, and includes 24-hour on-site medical and psychosocial support. In 2003, Camp Sunshine House was built as a facility to provide year-round emotional and social support for children with cancer and their families. It is a place for families coping with cancer to come together for support, information and fun. Camp Sunshine is a nonprofit organization funded solely by private foundations, corporate gifts, organizations and individuals.
