Most episodes of Cowboy Bebop are stand-alone caper adventures focusing around a single bounty hunt. Particularly memorable episodes include #5, "Ballad of Fallen Angels," in which Spike confronts an old acquaintance--a man called Vicious who lives up to his name by brutally wiping out a series of local ganglords. The episode leaves Spike's history mostly obscure, but presents a series of spectacular, dynamic flashbacks that become clearer bit by bit as the series unfolds. Episode #7, "Heavy Metal Queen," presents one of the most mature and personable female characters ever seen in anime, while Episode #11, "Toys in the Attic," is a hysterical deadpan parody of Alien that seems to end with the death of almost all the Bebop's crew. Other episodes in this run start to flesh out Jet and Faye as characters, allowing tantalizing peeks into their history but never quite spelling out what makes them tick.

Cowboy Bebop DVD Box Set One of the most notable elements of Cowboy Bebop is its music. Performed by Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts, a band Kanno assembled to perform music for the series, the jazz and blues themed soundtrack helps to define the show as much as the characters, writing, and even animation. Many fans find the soundtracks enjoyable to listen to as albums on their own, independent of the series. Cowboy Bebop was voted by IGN in 2006 as having the greatest soundtrack for an anime.[9]
In the first episode of Cowboy Bebop, the characters Jet and Spike are introduced as two broke and hungry bounty hunters living on a ship called the Bebop. Jet and Spike go to the asteroid Tijuana after the bounty of Asimov Solensen, a villain addicted to the drug Red Eye. Asimov and his girlfriend, Katerina, are on the run heading for Mars when Spike meets up with them and shows off his Bruce Lee-style fighting skills. The reoccurring background characters of Antonio, Carlos, and Jobin make their first appearance. "Asteroid Blues" bears some tributes to the film Desperado. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

Cowboy Bebop The English may be a bit jumbled, but the message in the Cowboy Bebop promos effectively captures the essence of the series. Cowboy Bebop is the tale of a futuristic maverick, Spike Spiegel, a space cowboy and his band of partners (Jet Black, Faye Valentine, Edward, and lets not forget Ein the dog), as they race across the galaxy on daring adventures. They are Bounty Hunters struggling to survive in a world that is a strange combination of past, present, and future. There are fantastic space crafts and interstellar casinos side by side with droopy sombreros and slow traffic lights. With each new bounty that they go after, new characters are introduced, and new cosmic landscapes are explored. The series is episodic, as Spike Spiegel heads off on a new quest each week to secure a new prize.

In the United Kingdom, Cowboy Bebop was first broadcast in 2002 as one of the highlights of the ill-fated "cartoon network for adults", CNX. As of November 6, 2007, it is being repeated on AnimeCentral.
Initially debuting as a 12-episode series, Cowboy Bebop was lengthened with another fourteen episodes created by Watanabe Shinichiro. With its wild success and popularity, it can be argued that this anime is the quintessential series of the 1990s.
