1. Women in Literature -- Writers
   In this chapter Deborah Kent, who herself has a disability, looks at the ways women with disabilities have been portrayed in plays and novels, to determine whether the image which literature conveys is overwhelmingly negative. Her conclusion is that writers, like most other people, seem to see the disability before anything else when they portray a woman with a disability. Few authors manage to portray the person behind the disability. In all instances, the disability determines the woman's interaction with other people. The competencies and capabilities, education and personality of women with disabilities have little effect on the attitudes towards her. 2. British Literature -- Students
   British Literature covers so much ground that it's often difficult for the teacher or student to know where to start. These anthologies present comprehensive views of literature from Old and Middle English (600-1485), through the Renaissance (1485-1660), the Restoration, the Romantic Period (1789-1832), and beyond. 5. Dr (Work) -- Georgetown University
   Dr. Heidi Hanrahan joined the English Department in the fall of 2007. She previously taught at the University of Richmond and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned her B.A. in English and history from Roanoke College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in American Literature before 1900 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her teaching and research interests include nineteenth-century American literature, early American literature, composition, and nineteenth-century British literature. She has published articles on Lydia Maria Child, Harriet Jacobs, and Grace King and is currently working on a larger project on nineteenth-century writers and their editors.
6. Music Business Management -- Students
   Berklee's Music Business/Management Department, currently the largest major at the world's leading music college, presented the Second Annual Entrepreneurs Panel at Berklee College of Music last week. The panelists included Wayne Inouye, CEO & President, Gateway Computers, the third largest PC company in the U.S. and in the top ten worldwide; Fred Bramante, Founder & President, Daddy's Junky Music, one of the largest musical products company in the country; John C. Koss, Sr., Founder and Chairman of the Board, Koss Corporation, a major consumer electronics company ranking as a world leader in the manufacture of high fidelity stereophones; and Jim D'Addario, President, J. D'Addario & Co., a family owned instrument string manufacturing business that employs people on five continents. Martin Dennehy, associate professor of music business, moderated a lively discussion by the top entrepreneurs. Topics included the ins and outs of starting and growing a business, the importance of human resources, the challenges inherent to being a publicly traded versus privately held company, and qualities necessary to be a good leader. 9. Literary Theory -- Books
   This is, by some distance, the best single-volume introduction to literary theory. Eagleton writes judiciously and with wry humour about a subject which presents problems for many people. Any difficult terminology is lucidly explained, and despite Eagleton's own political inclinations, this book is no Marxist theory of literature. To say that it is, as some previous reviewers have done, reveals that you either want to disparage the book for your own political ends, or you haven't read it very closely. Recommended.
10. Food and Culture -- United States
    This short Focus report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) looks at the problem of obesity in developing countries. There are three main sections in the report: A New Burden, describing the problem; Nutrition Transition, exploring the reasons behind the problem; and First Hunger Then Obesity, outlining the FAO's viewpoint on the problem.
