Costco Wholesale is a membership warehouse club chain. Costco opened its first warehouse in Seattle, Washington on September 15, 1983. In 1993, Costco merged with Price Club. The combined company, PriceCostco, was effectively double the size of each of its parents. The company name changed to Costco Wholesale in 1997.
Costco Wholesale is to bulk packaged goods what Microsoft is to software. The company operates more than 430 "members only" warehouses and has more than 42 million members, making it the largest wholesale club chain in the U.S., ahead of Wal-Mart's Sam's Clubs. Costco Wholesale Corp. (COST) opened at 59.50. So far today, the stock has hit a low of 59.43 and a high of 59.95. COST is now trading at 59.92, up 1.40 (2.39%). The stock hit its 52 week high of 59.95 today and set its 52 week low of 46 in August. After a tough summer when the stock fell down to 46.00, COST sharply rose to hit a new 52 week high today. Shares of Costco Wholesale have been climbing today after a Goldman Sachs analyst upgraded the stock to buy from neutral and lifted its price target to $70 a share from $59.
In 2001, CISA in partnership with APS, Honeywell, Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, and Costco Wholesale, opened the Suns-Diamondbacks Education Academy. This small school academy allows students from across the Valley the chance to complete their high school education and receive a high school diploma. Academy students not only graduate, they get a head start on their future. Since opening its doors, Suns-Diamondbacks has graduated over 230 students, thanks in part to the community involvement of Costco Wholesale.
