[C]ame the French Revolution and the people of Corsica were declared to be subject to the same laws as Revolutionary France. Paoli seized the opportunity to return to the island and to try and develop his separatist politics under the new regime. He soon found ... that the Corsican Jacobites - including the Bonaparte family - owed too much to France to have much sympathy for his way of thinking. So in 1793, Paoli set up an independent government in Corte and approached the British government for help. The British had been driven out of Toulon by the French and were looking for a new naval base. English troops and naval forces moved in and there was some fighting, including the siege of Calvi in 1794 when Nelson lost his right eye, and the French moved out.
Corsica is divided into five arrondissements (chief townsAjaccio, Bastia, Calvi, Corte and Sartene), with 62 cantons and 364 communes. It forms part of the acadernie (educational circumscription) and archiepiscopal province of Aix (Bouches-duRhone) and of the region of the XV. army corps. The principal towns are Ajaccio, the capital and the seat of the bishop of the island and of the prefect; Bastia, the seat of the court of appeal and of the military commander; Calvi, Corte and Bonifacio. Other places of interest are St Florent, near which stand the ruins of the cathedral (12th century) of the vanished town of Nebbio; Murato, which has a church (12th or 13th century) of Pisan architecture, which is exemplified in other Corsican churches; and Cargese, where there is a Greek colony, dating from the 17th century. Near Lucciana are the ruins of a fine Romanesque church called La Canonica.
L'Ile de la Corse - Journal d'un voyage - by James Boswell, published by Hermann (Paris) 1991, ISBN 2-7056-61700 (the French translation of Boswell's account of his visit to Corsica in 1765. The book was widely read in London and secured the fame of Paoli and his "constitution" of 1755. The English version "An Account of Corsica" is unfortunately out of print.)
Politically, Corsica is governed as a rgion of France, though there are significant local movements calling for greater autonomy or independence. It has 260,196 inhabitants, and an area of 8,682km2. There are some political points which can be directly treated regardless of France if they consider island development or tourism development.
corsica Famous for its independent spirit, rugged beauty, olive oil, wine and citrus fruit, Corsica was the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Its major industry is tourism, with many visitors arriving by ferry.

Interview with a Chevy Volt Engineer The division ... looked to continental sensibilities by adding to the 1989 Chevrolet Corsica sedan a hatchback body style. To the stylists' credit, the hatchback didn't look much different from the sedan, but did furnish a more versatile approach to utility.
