Corsica (Frans: Corse, Corsicaans: Corsica) is een eiland in de Middellandse Zee, gelegen tussen Sardinië en Ligurië. Het behoort tot Frankrijk. Het eiland meet 8720 km² en is daarmee het grootste eiland van Frankrijk en na Sicilië, Sardinië en Cyprus het grootste in de Middellandse Zee. Het telt ca 250.000 inwoners, waarvan er 100.000 in de twee grootste steden wonen: Ajaccio en Bastia. Het eiland vormt één regio (hoofdstad: Ajaccio) en sinds 1975 twee departementen: Haute-Corse (prefectuur: Bastia) en Corse-du-Sud (prefectuur: Ajaccio).

Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in Calvi (Corsica), northwest of the island, 200km from Ajaccio. He was the oldest of five children. As a child, he helped his father as a weaver. He always liked the sea.

You can get to Corsica by plane from most French airports, using one of the island's four main airports at Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi and Figari (near Bonifacio). It takes about 6.5 hours to make the crossing by boat from Marseille, Nice or Toulon, arriving at Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi, Île Rousse, Porto Vecchio or Propriano. There are ... the high speed ferries (NGV - Navire à Grande Vitesse) that run from Nice to Calvi in 2.5 hours, or to Bastia in 3.5 hours.
