Launched in October 2006 by co-founders Susan Hager and Yolanda Segovia, Cookie Brigade sends homemade cookies to some of the most remote military outposts. Working closely with all US branches of the military and the US War Dog Association, Cookie Brigade's corps of bakers has baked up and shipped out more than 25,000 cookies to troops stationed throughout the U.S., as well as Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, South Korea, Africa and Germany.
Since announcing its new on-line gourmet cookie gifting website in November, Michael's Cookies has been out and about in Park City, Utah mixing in with the best of gift bags and baskets. The following are amongst the recipients that received gifts through Stone Management at the Sundance Film Festival 2007: Alan Alda, Sean Astin, Daunte Culpepper, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Josh Hartnett, Teri Hatcher, Anne Heche, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Kennedy, Matt Leinart, and Carl Lewis.
The development of the formal cookie specifications was already ongoing. In particular, the first discussions about a formal specification started in April 1995 on the www-talk mailing list. A special working group within the IETF was formed. Two alternative proposals for introducing a state in an HTTP transactions had been proposed by Brian Behlendorf and David Kristol, respectively, but the group, headed by Kristol himself, soon decided to use the Netscape specification as a starting point. On February 1996, the working group identified third-party cookies as a considerable privacy threat. The specification produced by the group was eventually published as RFC 2109 in February 1997.
This year, Brown Bag Designs is delighted to offer a very special new cookie mold called Heifer and Friends, sales from which will benefit Heifer International. This wonderful organization was founded in 1944 with the mission of ending hunger and poverty while caring for the earth. Rather than being given food, families in need are given livestock and training in sustainable environmentally sound agriculture. Each family is then required to "pass it on", giving one or more offspring from their family’s Heifer animal to another family. And on it goes. This is a long term solution that fosters dignity and self reliance.
Together with John Giannandrea, Montulli wrote the initial Netscape cookie specification the same year. Version 0.9beta of Mosaic Netscape, released on October 13, 1994[25][26], supported cookies. The first actual use of cookies (out of the labs) was made for checking whether visitors to the Netscape Web site had already visited the site. Montulli applied for a patent for the cookie technology in 1995; it was granted in 1998. Support for cookies was integrated in Internet Explorer in version 2, released in October 1995.[27]
- A cookie is information that a Web site puts on your hard disk so that it can remember something about you at a later time. (More technically, it is information for future use that is stored by the server on the client side of a client/server communication.) Typically, a cookie records your preferences when using a particular site. Using the Web's Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), each request for a Web page is independent of all other requests. For this reason, the Web page server has no memory of what pages it has sent to a user previously or anything about your previous visits. A cookie is a mechanism that allows the server to store its own information about a user on the user's own computer. You can view the cookies that have been stored on your hard disk (although the content stored in each cookie may not make much sense to you).
