QNX Software Systems today announced that Motorola has chosen the QNX Neutrino RTOS to assist in the development of a telematics control unit (TCU) being built by Motorola Automotive. Motorola's innovative TCU product - which will be deployed in a line of European luxury cars later this year - utilizes automotive-grade software to give drivers access to cellphone communication technology.

The first example of this strategy was the development of a new hot water heating control unit. This product was developed for Chromagen Ltd, a major international player in the field of alternative energy, with sales in more than 35 countries around the world. The new heating control unit uses an advanced remote control system developed by InRob that can be programmed to provide specific quantities of hot water at specified times of the day. In addition to this product, the Company is investigating a number of new civilian applications with strong market potential.

The DS-U1 camera control unit is equipped with USB 2.0 as its interface for seamless control and quick image streaming and capture. Installation is fast and easy requiring one USB 2.0 connection to a computer or laptop, and is easily scalable by adding Nikon's ACT-2U image application software that provides a convenient GUI for efficient image capturing and analysis as well as simple reconfiguration control. A TWAIN software interface is ... available. The DS-L1 camera control unit is a self-contained, stand-alone system including an integrated viewing monitor with the ability to connect to computer network systems via its LAN interface.
Key components of the system include ATK's Mk44 Chain Gun, a gun control unit with an inductive fuze setter; a fire control system and the 30mm x 173mm Air Bursting Munition. Milliseconds before the round is chambered, the sophisticated fuze is programmed to explode at the precise range selected by the gunner -- who uses an advanced laser range finder to determine the distance. Once the round exits the gun, the ATK-designed fuze technology computes the projectile's revolutions and velocity to determine the exact moment of detonation.
This is the number the system uses to tie a physical Control Unit to a device configuration (device number). For the control unit and WAN3 modules this is the MAC address. For a device connected to an Expansion port it is the Expansion port number plus 1.
