Continental Airlines: New York
built 643 days ago
"Continental's new 737-900ER will have among the lowest operating costs in the industry and allows us to build upon our efficient Boeing Next-Generation 737 fleet," said Larry Kellner, chairman and chief executive officer of Continental Airlines. "These aircraft are part of our continued focus on fleet modernization, fuel efficiency and delivering the best product in the business."
Texas Air completed the full acquisition of Continental Airlines in October 1982. Just a year later, Lorenzo filed Chapter 11 proceedings for the company. Labor contracts were invalidated by the courts, new work rules and pay scales were created, and just 56 hours later, Continental was back in the air. It was the first time that an airline had attempted to continue operations while in bankruptcy. Workers went on strike and formed picket lines. Management worried that travel agents would stop writing tickets for Continental and that passengers would be lost because of bad publicity surrounding the company's financial situation.

Continental operates international flights and domestic flights from Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport During World War II Continental's Denver maintenance facilities became a conversion center where the airline converted B-29s and P-51s for the United States Army Air Force. Profits from military transportation and aircraft conversion enabled Continental to contemplate expansion and acquisition of new aircraft types which became available following the war.[3] Among those types were the DC-3, and Convair 240. Some of the DC-3's were acquired as surplus planes after WW-II. The Convair was the first airplane operated by Continental that was pressurized.
Continental AG had out-of-date and disparate client-server infrastructure that needed groupwide standardization. This more involved providing than 80 sites worldwide with a total of 24,000 new workstations and portable computers, installing new server computers, and setting up modern operating systems and applications. Continental was the first airline in the Americas to order the 737-900ER and currently has 26 more on order. Continental this year expects to take delivery of an average of two-to-three new Next-Generation 737s per month, which includes a mix of 737-900ERs and 737-800s. The airplanes are part of Continental's comprehensive fleet strategy, which focuses on improving operational efficiency and customer comfort.
During the quarter, Continental began a multi-year marketing agreement with the New York Giants, signing on as the team's official airline. The agreement includes cooperative advertising and joint marketing fan promotions through 2010.
