The Presidents Club is the membership airport lounge program of Continental Airlines. The clubs all have open bars, but have ... started a premium bar service where higher end wines can be purchased by the glass. Continental was the first airline to offer free wi-fi in their lounge.[29] There are 27 clubs throughout the world and members have full reciprocal privileges at over 40 additional locations including lounges operated by selected SkyTeam partners including Delta Air Lines, Aeroméxico, Alitalia, and Northwest Airlines. Presidents club members also have access to Alaska Airlines lounges and Amtrak Acela clubs. The Presidents Club offers lifetime memberships, something that as of 2007 costs non-elite OnePass members $5,100.[30] BusinessFirst customers flying and International itinerary are allowed access to the club, and may bring guests. American Express Platinum and Black card members are granted access to Presidents Clubs if they are flying on a Continental operated flight that day under a continental flight number.

Continental logged a record $319 million in earnings in 1996. "Fly to Win" initiatives were introduced to keep the company moving forward. The airline began standardizing the fleet, mostly around the Boeing 737 for the main line and Embraer EMB 145 regional jets for Continental Express. Some Continental Express flights utilize stairs for customer boarding. This is done at airports that do not have mechanical lifts. In these instances boarding is arranged by utilizing a stair chair physically carried by airline personnel. Continental Express ExpressJet (ERJ, SRJ) aircraft will utilize jetway boarding whenever available.

ExpressJet Holdings Inc., the parent company for the regional jet unit Continental Express, was spun off in April 2002 in an IPO that raised $480 million. The IPO had been delayed several months due to the September 11 attacks. Continental owned 53 percent of ExpressJet after the offering.
