built 641 days ago
Consumer Reports' predicted reliability score is based on the three most recent model years' data for models whose design has not changed for 2007. Sometimes, CR makes a prediction for a redesigned or new model if the model or manufacturer has an outstanding history. One or two years of data might have been used if the model was new or redesigned in 2006 or 2005.

Consumer Reports has added 19 domestic models to its "Newly Recommended" list. They include the new GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, in their first years, and the Dodge Charger, which was not recommended in last year’s survey because of below-average reliability. Of the domestic models for which CR had sufficient data in the 2007 survey, 93 percent of Ford, 49 percent of General Motors and 67 percent of Chrysler models had average or better predicted reliability.
Consumer Reports assigned below-average ratings to the six-cylinder Toyota Camry, North America's top-selling car, a four-wheel drive version of Toyota's Tundra pickup truck and the all-wheel drive version of the Lexus GS luxury saloon. These models have been dropped from its recommended vehicles list.
In the end, Consumer Reports did find a top pick for pet owners, from Sears. The Kenmore Progressive model 35922, for $300. It rated excellent for both pet hair and overall cleaning.
