The Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) reminds consumers that, effective midnight on February 18, 2008, cellular telephone companiesmay no longer provide analog service, and will be converting to digital technology. While this should not cause a disruption in service, some cell phones, home alarm systems and OnStar in-vehicle communication services may not work after February 18 if they rely on analog equipment.
The Campaign for America's Future is among several groups fighting for improved consumer protection. Today, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group released a new report detailing dangerous toys on the shelves this holiday season. The United Steelworkers have been running a "Get the Lead Out" campaign providing families with lead testing kits for their homes. The Consumers Union has launched a video and petition for stricter protections on toys and food this week, and Public Citizen is ... collecting signatures for its petition demanding Nord's ouster.
WebAssured.com is the premiere free on-line consumer protection service that addresses complaints made by e-consumers. WebAssured.com provides a dispute-resolution service that offers money back guarantees for consumers shopping at member sites. In order to ensure Web Integrity, consumers who have had negative on-line shopping experiences with any website may use WebAssured.com's one of a kind Automated Dispute Resolution System (AdDResS). Customers may 'AdDResS' their situation using an on-line complain form. Once a complaint has been filed on-line, WebAssured.com contacts the merchant on the consumer's behalf. Merchants are very highly motivated to resolve disputes handled in this manner, because they do not want an unresolved complaint to appear in WebAssured.com's public database.
