While on station in Arabian Gulf, Constellation was visited Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-Calilf.), serving her third term representing California's 10th Congressional District, San Francisco's East Bay suburbs. The carrier was ... visted by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern Clark, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Terry Scott and Chief of Chaplains Rear Adm. Barry Black. On the hangar deck, the CNO told the crew "Remember, the American people are watching you. Be ready to go write some history.

Celebrity Constellation Ocean Liners, Constellation's alternative restaurant -- all dark woods, hushed elegance and candlelight -- is the star in Constellation's dining constellation. Ocean Liners serves only 140, so making reservations as soon as you get onboard is a must. The menu is "traditional continental," with offerings consistent with restaurant or shipboard cuisine of 50 years ago, including such tableside favorites as Caesar salad, and an incomparable steak Diane. There are ... some signature contemporary offerings, such as the not-to-be-missed goat cheese and tomato souffle. The wine list is superb. The cheese course offers an excellent selection of domestic and imported cheeses.
Constellations returns to San Diego On 5 January 1973, Constellation, along with Carrier Air Wing 9, began her seventh deployment to the western Pacific and Vietnam. The Vietnam cease-fire, announced on 23 January went into effect on the 27th. Aircraft from Constellation and Oriskany operating on Yankee Station, the location of which was changed to a position off the coast of the northern part of South Vietnam, flew strikes against targets in southern Laos. Combat sorties from carriers on Yankee Station against targets in Laos had continued since the cease-fire in Vietnam. These combat support sorties were flown in support of the Laotian government which had requested this assistance and it had no relationship with the cease-fire. Constellation returned from this deployment on 11 October 1973.

Constellation -- New Plane Breaks Speed Record Production of the Constellation went into high gear during World War II in its initial military configuration, the C-69. In 1945, the Constellation, or the Connie as it affectionately became know, began its commercial passenger service with TWA. The Constellation was the first airliner able to fly nonstop coast to coast. It could carry 54 passengers, travel a distance of 3,000 miles, and cruise at 280 miles per hour. The Constellation's pressurized cabin allowed it to fly at an unheard of 20,000 feet. At that height, the plane could fly above most turbulence, offering passengers a more comfortable flying experience.
