Constantine: New Rome
built 658 days ago
In his new role, Constantine will be representing the Yahoo! Buzz brand in media appearances and providing audiences with exclusive data on top American Idol Yahoo! searches. As a former American Idol contestant, Constantine will speak first hand about the Idol experience and provide insight as to why certain topics are popular on Yahoo!.
At first, Constantine honoured the tetrarchy which had stabilized the empire for a generation but Galerius himself died in 311 and Constantine saw his opportunity. In the spring of 312, in the first of his civil wars, Constantine moved against the ill-fated Maxentius to seize control of Italy and Africa, in the process almost annihilating a Roman army near Turin, and another outside of Rome.
Constantine can rightfully claim the title of Great, for he turned the history of the world into a new course and made Christianity, which until then had suffered bloody persecution, the religion of the State. It is true that the deeper reasons for this change are to be found in the religious movement of the time, but these reasons were hardly imperative, as the Christians formed only a small portion of the population, being a fifth part in the West and the half of the population in a large section of the East. Constantine's decision depended less on general conditions than on a personal act; his personality, therefore, deserves careful consideration.

Constantine upheld Roman supremacy against the insubordination of Felix, archbishop of Ravenna. He received as a pilgrim King Cenred of Mercia, who became a monk at Rome (709). Warner switches up the standard-issue DVD commentary for Constantine with its first genuine HD DVD bonus feature. Similar to an expanded audio commentary, the In-Movie Experience is a slick docu-commentary that runs alongside the film. The added bonus includes a new introduction and loosely guided tour by director Francis Lawrence mixed with bonus supplements that were previously featured on the standard DVD release. The idea is strikingly similar to Universal's Total Movie Experience, which was introduced on The Bourne Supremacy, but each studio presents its vision in its own particular way. (Not surprisingly, DVD production house New Wave Entertainment worked on both.) The Bourne commentary runs throughout the film in the right hand corner of the screen, intermixing different interviews and other features, but Constantine's DVD producers play more freely with the extras. The on-screen video box with the extras runs on different parts of the screen, sometimes with the director talking in one corner and a behind-the-scenes shot in another.
At last Constantine fled to his father, who ruled in the West. Constantius died July 25th, 306, having proclaimed his son Constantine his successor. He was opposed by Maxentius whom he three times defeated, first near Turin, then under the walls of Verona, and finally in the vicinity of Rome, 28th October, 312, Maxentius himself being drowned in an attempt to escape across the Tiber.
