When Texan Partisan Rangers began lynching some of the men and boys, a few settlers tried to flee to Mexico for safety. On August 10, 1862, the rangers caught up with a group in Kinney County, near the Nueces River. The rangers attacked, killing 19. Nine wounded settlers were later executed.
