The first course offered under this new partnership, Hands-On Hacking, will teach students how to think like hackers in order to better protect their own computer networks. The course, taught by Justin Peltier, will take place on December 9 and 10, 2003 at VPN Dynamics' fully equipped Santa Clara, California training location.

This resulted in a number of clones: the MANIAC at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, the ILLIAC at the University of Illinois, the Johnniac at Rand Corp., the SILLIAC in Australia, and others.

Sound Card: Have you ever heard your computer talk to you? If so then your computer has a sound card! Sound cards are very rare and are created spontaneously when the motherboard gives birth to a daughter or son board. Sound cards allow the computer to communicate with a person and tell them things. H.A.L. was a well known, very friendly computer with a sound card.

If the server delivers the message to HokieBird's mailbox, HokieBird sees a message that appears to have been sent by DukeDog@jmu.edu but that was actually sent by Bill's computer under the control of a virus or criminal. If HokieBird replies to the message, the reply gets sent to DukeDog@jmu.edu, the apparent sender. Other fields under control of the virus or criminal can change this behavior to send replies to a completely different third party, for example tuitionpayment@criminal.net .
