After brokering a deal last June, Commodore, the previously strong maker of the Commodore64 PC, is going to launch a line of gaming PCs at CeBIT. The powerful combination of Commodore chips allowed some amazing capabilities. The Commodore 64 utilized the Commodore 6510 microprocessor chip which was an advanced version of the Commodore 6502 microprocessor which had been used in the Vic 20, Apple 2, and Atari models. The 64 had revolutionary sound via the 6581 Sound Interface Device (SID) chip and was probably the first home computer to be able to emulate the human voice without additional hardware. This SID chip provided for 4 different voices and many sophisticated sound forms. The C-64 had superior 16 color graphics with sprite capabilities due to its 6567 Video Interface (VIC) Chip. The other support chips in the Commodore 64 were equally impressive for that time period.

The First And Only Nationwide, Non-Thermal U.S. EPA Permit Commodore's SET process has received the only nationwide non-thermal U.S. Environmental Protection Agency permit for the destruction of PCBs in soils and on metallic surfaces. And the SET process machines are portable. The SET process is one of only ten technologies, and one of only three environmental technologies, selected by the White House for accelerated development to assist penetration of international markets under its Rapid Commercialization Initiative (RCI). An RCI demonstration was completed at the Navy's Port Hueneme, Calif., facility in late 1996.

The VT Commodore, released in 1997, was loosely based on the Opel Omega, and saw a coupe version, the Monaro, which resurrected a famous Holden brand name from the 1960s and 1970s. The VT heralded the fitment of the semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension as standard across the range. However, the simple design allowed distortions to the camber angle during heavy towing or when improperly manufactured, leading to excessive rear tyre wear. Various aftermarket camber kits became available to correct this problem.
