Commander In Chief: United States
built 287 days ago
Commander in Chief: Part One - The Inagural Edition The point of "Commander in Chief" is to tell the story of the first woman president of the United States. Her resume is that she was a prosecutor, elected to the U.S. Congress twice as an independent from Connecticut (they have had an independent Senator), and then Chancellor of the University of Richmond (Go Spiders!). When Republican Vice President Teddy Bridges runs for president, he gets her to be his running mate. If this seems like a weird political ploy, for the Republican nominee to pick a less conservative woman as his running mate, then you should know the Democratic nominee picked a more conservative man, a general no less, to be his running mate. In the "Pilot" episode, a dying Bridges wants Allen to resign so that Speaker of the House Nathan Templeton (Donald Sutherland) can become president. If she agrees, then there is no show.

Admiral Ackbar, a Commander in Chief of the Alliance Military/New Republic Defense Force Commander-in-Chief was the highest rank in a military. The title was usually reserved for the Head of State of a government. During the Clone Wars, the Supreme Chancellor held the position. The position was originally held by the Minister of Defense.
Among the TV spots running outside the Beltway, "Act" features Admiral Dennis Blair, USN (Ret.), former Commander-In-Chief, United States Pacific Command, who is a member of SAFE's Energy Security Leadership Council (ESLC). The ad illustrates the strategic dangers of oil dependence and urges Congress to finalize comprehensive legislation that increases supply, reduces demand, and develops alternative fuels. "Enemies II" diagnoses America's oil dependence problem and prescribes a meaningful, supply-demand solution.
There are subtle hints that the show may be taking place in a post-9/11 world, but in Commander In Chief's universe 9/11 may have taken place during Bridges' Presidency. The Department of Homeland Security, created in the wake of 9/11 in the real world, has been mentioned. In the episode No Nukes is Good Nukes, Templeton mentioned that President Bridges launched a raid on the Khyber Pass, an area in Pakistan, so an invasion of Pakistan may have taken place in the Commander in Chief universe. And in the episode First...Do No Harm, President Allen faced a crisis when a terrorist group resembling Al-Qaeda attempts to launch an attack in the United States.

In the view of many Franklin Roosevelt was probably the most active Commander-in -Chief of the American military since Lincoln. Larrabee uses examples to show how Roosevelt, in fighting World War II, employed the same leadership skills that he earlier used to fight the Great Depression. Most important was that he assumed the leadership role of the wartime alliance and ran the war through Washington, thereby sealing a postwar leadership position of importance for the United States (p2). However, Larrabee ... examines two of Roosevelt’s failures; France and China. Charles de Gaulle was more powerful than Roosevelt thought and by writing off China, Roosevelt ensured instability in the region for many years.

A commander-in-chief is the commander of a nation's military forces or significant element of those forces. In the latter case, the force element may be defined as those forces within a particular region or those forces which are associated by function. As a practical term it refers to the military competencies which reside in a nation-state's executive, head of state or government. Often, a given country's commander-in-chief need not be or have been a commissioned officer or even a veteran, and it is by this legal statute that civilian control of the military is realized in states where it is constitutionally required.
