DC Comics, Superman's publisher, released four prequel titles throughout June 2006 to tie in with the movie. The four 40-page editions served to explain the backstory to Superman Returns and are entitled Krypton to Earth (which reintroduces the origin from the 1978 Film, with Jor-El as the main protagonist), Ma Kent (in which Martha Kent recalls finding her son, his life growing up, and contemplates if she'll ever see him again), Lex Luthor (discussing Lex Luthor's time in jail, how he met Kitty and Gertrude Vanderworth (the old rich woman)) and Lois Lane (going over Lois' heartbreaking loss of the Man of Steel, her first meeting with Richard, and the birth of Jason).[40]

In the early 1990s Tanzania was a model African country when it came to the availability and support of indigenous comics. The country was severely strapped of foreign currency and its press had no funds to buy widely syndicated comic strips. When the multi-party system was introduced to Tanzania (1990-95) a range of new newspapers and other publications emerged. In the one-party era there were 4-5 major papers but in 1994 they reached 26. Cartoonists and comic artists suddenly had a wide market and local comics became very popular. A set of weekly tabloids (Sanifu, Komesha, Risasi, Al-hasiri, etc.), all filled with comics and cartoons, became big in the late 1990s.

The main thing to remember when collecting comics is to enjoy yourself. Find a comics character you enjoy. Does their super-power, their secret identity, or the world they inhabit interest you? Are they part of a group? If so, are you interested in collecting more than one title at a time?
