On May 10, the WGA said 35 writers on "The Sarah Silverman Program" and five other Comedy Central shows were seeking WGA representation. Guild representatives passed out fliers detailing their demands at the Viacom shareholders meeting last month in New York last month.

From the late 1980s through the mid-1990s, much of the programming on Comedy Central, and its predecessors, consisted of comedy movies, sitcom re-runs and half-hour specials and clip-shows featuring stand up comedians. With the exception of the cult favorite Mystery Science Theater 3000, the channel had a relatively small viewership. A notable early success was Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, which after showing promise on Comedy Central was quickly snapped up by the ABC network. Additionally, The Daily Show had got its start with premiere host Craig Kilborn, although it would take a few more years for the show to reach high popularity (with the introduction of Jon Stewart). In Nederland ging Comedy Central op 30 april 2007 van start, waarbij het één kanaal deelt met Nickelodeon. Comedy Central zendt uit vanaf 's avonds 20:00 tot 5:00 uur 's nachts. MTV Networks Nederland vormde de urban zender The Box om in Comedy Central. Dit nadat Viva Media AG, waarvan The Box deel uitmaakte, overgenomen was door MTV Networks in 2004. MTV Networks Nederland had al diverse aspecten van deze muziekzender veranderd, waarbij de zender in eerste instantie een op vrouwen gerichte urbanzender diende te zijn. Nadat bleek dat deze strategie en de inkomsten van de clipaanvragen verminderden, en tegelijkertijd een in 2006 geïntroduceerd comedyblok beter bekeken werd, is besloten om stap voor stap The Box om te bouwen van urban muziekzender naar een comedyzender.

NEW YORK, April 16, 2007 -- The homeless population is on the rise in an all-new "South Park" entitled, "Night of the Living Homeless," premiering on Wednesday, April 18 at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on COMEDY CENTRAL. Increasing numbers of homeless are eating, sleeping and asking for change all over South Park. While the adults are working on creative solutions to care for the homeless, the boys are busy solving the problem once and for all.
