1. Columbine Shootings -- Columbine High School
   The approaching anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings has increased public interest in plans for a permanent memorial. A Memorial Committee consisting of students, faculty and parents from Columbine High; a representative of the victim’s families; design professionals; emergency response agencies; community members; and representatives from R-1 Schools, Jefferson County and Foothills Park and Recreation District has been meeting regularly since July of 1999. The committee has created an organizational structure, developed a mission statement, goals and objectives and gathered 2,300 responses to a questionnaire provided to students, faculty, parents, and published in Columbine area newspapers. The committee has interviewed a number of firms and selected a consultant to assist with the memorial design process. A design team including local firm DHM Design, was retained to assist the committee with the public process and development of design alternatives.
2. Columbine Shootings -- Schools
   The Virginia Tech massacre this month and the Columbine shootings in 1999 are two tragedies which have sparked many schools to review their safety and security policies and procedures. Improved warning systems will get the word out quickly and surveillance cameras will allow closer monitoring of the campus. "Unfortunately, lockdowns are increasingly more common in today's schools from preschool on up," says Mina Arnao, President of More Prepared. Whether the threat is an armed burglar on the loose in the area, a bomb threat or a chemical leak from a nearby plant, a school's primary concern is the safety of its students.    Manson retired to Britain in 1889 and, after the failure of his Chinese investments, set up in practice in London. He had felt the want of a school of tropical medicine and accepted an invitation to give a series of lectures on the subject at St George's Hospital. This earned him the appointment of Medical Advisor to the Colonial Office thereby gaining the ear of Joseph Chamberlain, the Colonial Secretary. As a result he persuaded Chamberlain that schools of tropical medicine were a 'Good Thing'.
7. Charlton Heston -- Guns
   What a terrible task it was, then, when Charlton Heston himself was the victim of gun violence only about an hour after this great proclamation, to try to take the gun away. Because as the actor lay dying, clinging to life, he clung even harder to the gun, perhaps still mindful of his last wonderful soundbite. Finally, police out of respect for his dying-wish left the gun in his cooling, dying fingers. It was up to the "boys at the morge" later to actually pry it from his by-then cold, dead fingers.

10. Pills -- Sleeping Pills
    Sleeping Pills was shot in Denver and surrounding suburbs, including Thornton and Littleton (where the notorious Columbine High School massacre took place). Shooting began May of 1999 with completion of principal photography in November of 1999 and completion of second unit filming in February of 2000. Post-production was completed in October of 2003 and the film premiered at The Cairo International Film Festival the same month. The North American premier was December 4, 2003 in Denver. Since then, the film has been shown in limited circulation in theaters around the US.
