Colt Defense: Touchdowns
built 276 days ago
The Colt defense pounded Broncos running back Clinton Portis and smothered wide receivers Rod Smith and Ashley Lelie and tight end Shannon Sharpe. The defense didn't give up a touchdown until 7:04 remained in the game and the outcome was no longer in doubt. Portis finished with 68 yards on 17 carries, well short of his 122-per-game average. Quarterback Jake Plummer completed 23-of-30 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown, but he was intercepted twice by cornerback David Macklin. Plummer ... turned over the ball on a fumble in the third quarter.

As an encore to its brilliant showing against the Chiefs, the Colts' defense starred in Week 2 of the playoffs in Baltimore, holding the Steve McNair-led Raven offense to a measly six points. The wily McNair threw for just 173 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Ravens running back Jamal Lewis, meanwhile, was contained to the tune of 53 yards on 13 carries. Final outcome: Indy 15, Baltimore 6. Oddly enough, the Colts got a below-par performance from their usually dominant 'O' for the second straight week.

The Colts' halftime lead could have been 21-0, but the Miami defense, combined with the Colts struggling offense, meant the Colts had to twice settle for field goals instead of touchdowns. Although Edgerrin James had 107 yards rushing, Peyton Manning was just 17-for-32 and 194 yards. But most crippling, the Colts were 2-of-11 in third-down conversions.
