In 2007, the Colorado Lottery plans to recruit more retailers to sell lottery tickets, hoping to have a total of 3,000 retailers by June 30. The lottery already has 2,900 licensed retailers statewide.

On August 2, 2001, the Colorado Lottery introduces the mega-jackpot game Powerball. The game is introduced to players at more than 2500 retailers with Lottery representatives participating in more than 70 promotions statewide.

Lottery Director Peggy Gordon presented Ritter with a ceremonial $1.92 billion check on behalf of the people of Colorado on Friday. The amount reflects the money the lottery has distributed in proceeds to the state during its 25-year history.

DENVER - Senator Chris Romer thinks the odds of solving Colorado's state budget woes would be a lot better if the state considered privatizing the Colorado Lottery. Romer is floating the idea of leasing the lottery's operations for 50 years, which he says could earn the state $1 billion up front to put into schools and open space.

In January of 1999, the Lottery reaches an historic milestone, more than $1 billion in proceeds was returned to the people of Colorado since the Lottery's inception in 1983. In conjunction with statewide park and recreation districts, Lottery staff celebrate this achievement with a "Thanks a Billion." promotion.

Margaret M. Gordon became Director of the Colorado Lottery on January 1, 2004. Gordon left a leadership position with the State's Division of Criminal Justice Office for Victims Programs to accept the Lottery position. She served for five years as program administrator with the same office. Prior to that time, she held various management positions with the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office in Centennial, Colo. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Colorado, Denver; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Western Michigan University.
