Cold Sores: Lips
built 793 days ago
Cold Sores appear as small but painful fluid filled blisters on or around the lips and nose. They have been known to be aggressively inflamed by changes in temperature, hence their nick name “cold sores”. The root cause is in fact ... not a reaction to cold but rather is caused by one of two highly contagious viruses: Herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2.

Cold sores and fever blisters can be treated with antiviral medications. These medications are of little value if therapy is started after the blisters appear. Antiviral creams applied directly to the sores shorten the healing time by less than one day. Antiviral drugs taken by mouth can help to prevent cold sores in tropical locations where exposure to the sun can trigger an outbreak. Wind and other weather conditions ... can trigger cold sores if your lips become too dry. It also helps to keep the affected area clean and to apply soothing lip balm if the lips are involved.

Cold sores and fever blisters are one in the same. They're caused by the herpes simplex virus and they're quite contagious. Cold sores usually last about seven to ten days. They start out with a tingling feeling around the outside of your lip, and into red, raised, fluid filled blisters within a day or two. In rare cases, a cold sore can form inside your mouth, on your nose, or on your chin. Cold sores can take up to twenty days to develop after exposure.
Cold sores are small lesions that appear on the lips or surrounding skin. These lesions initially form as clusters of tiny blisters that burst and then crust over. They can last for 6-10 days. They are painful to touch and can interfere with normal activities.

Cold sores and fever blisters appear when the virus is reactivated later in life. They may occur after a period of illness or stress, poor nutrition or sunlight exposure, or for no known reason. Dental procedures that stretch the lip may occasionally trigger the virus to become active. The border of the lip is by far the most common place for these sores to appear. They may occasionally erupt inside the mouth, particularly in patients with compromised immune systems or those debilitated by other medical disorders.

Cold sores (fever blisters) are small red blisters that usually appear on the lips and outer edges of the mouth. They often weep a clear liquid and form scabs after a few days. They are sometimes confused with impetigo, which usually develops between the nose and upper lip. Fluid that weeps from impetigo is cloudy and honey-colored.
