A diminutive clown who's in love with the Clowness, the Little Clown is always ready to play tricks on his compatriots. Impish and lively, he is both an endearing companion and a force to be reckoned with. He readily criticizes the audience. The Little Clown is the trainer for the Small Horses, who next to him, appear very large.

John Wayne Gacy, who was a clown by day and a serial killer by night was an extreme example of evil clowns. In dozens of movies clowns have been portrayed in a very dark light. Steven King's Pennywise in IT, The Joker in Batman, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and Captain Spaulding from Rob Zombie's horror movies are just a few examples of Hollywood perpetuating the clown as a decidely unfunny character.

In clown duos, Clowns often rely on the Joey & Auguste framework, or Manipulator/Victim. The Joey & Auguste Framework is often used widely in such comic works as Looney Toons. Simply put, the two clowns, who for whatever reason are competing for survival, desperately rely on each other; without each other, they live a meaningless, and perhaps even more perilous adventure. For example, when Sylvester finally catches Tweety Bird (or thinks he does) he becomes so ridden with guilt that he nearly commits suicide.
