Cloris Leachman is a prolific actress who has won an Academy Award(R) as well as a record eight Emmy(R) Awards since she made her screen debut in 1955 in the film noir "Kiss Me Deadly." BOSTON, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ — Bette Midler and Cloris Leachman head a new list of celebrated actresses joining the ensemble cast of Picturehouse and Inferno Entertainment’s “The Women” now shooting in Boston. Carrie Fisher, Lynn Whitfield, Joanna Gleason, Ana Gasteyer and Debi Mazar will ... now appear in the comedy directed by Diane English from her adaptation of Clare Boothe Luce’s iconic play, which was first filmed in 1939 by George Cukor. Already working on the film are Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Candice Bergen. The comedy is produced by Victoria Pearman and Mick Jagger of Jagged Films and Bill Johnson of Inferno as well as English. Cloris Leachman grew up in Iowa, and began appearing on a local radio show when she was 11. By the age of 17, she was a regular in Des Moines area amateur plays. In her early 20s, she was in the original Broadway run of South Pacific, and moonlighting on live TV anthologies such as Actor's Studio, Kraft Television Theatre, and Lux Video Theatre. She has been a regular cast member on at least ten television series, including the original Bob and Ray Show. She became famous as Mary Tyler Moore's nosy and neurotic neighbor Phyllis, and later had her own Phyllis spin-off. She replaced Charlotte Rae on The Facts of Life, and played Frankie Muñiz's grandmother on Malcolm in the Middle.

Cloris Leachman was born in De Moines, Iowa, on 30 April 1926. She and George Englund married in 1953 and divorced in 1979. They had five children: George Englund, Jr., Bryan Englund, Adam Englund, Dinah Englund, and Morgan Englund, all of whom have carried on the family’s career in show business. George Englund, Jr., was the second husband of actress Sharon Stone.23
