French Rococo bracket clocks, (Museum of Time, Besançon) Clocks are in homes and offices; smaller ones (watches) are carried; larger ones are in public places, e.g. a train station or church. A small clock is often shown in a corner of computer displays, mobile phones and many MP3 players.
Clocks hold a special interest for many antique collectors. The many mechanical variations that affect the length of operation and the variety of striking devices and case designs have particular appeal. Since early clocks were handmade by individuals, the variations in the movements are almost infinite.

Near the end of the 14th century, the spring had begun to replace the weight in some clocks. This advancement allowed for clocks which could be carried. One problem with a spring clock is that the escapement mechanism must always be operated with a constant force. The problem was that as the spring unwound, it lost power. To solve this, the stackfreed was introduced. This is an extra spring that works against the motion when the watch is fully wound.

"CHAIN networks represent a new way of looking at on-chip interconnect that eliminates many of the problems associated with traditional global bus architectures controlled by high-speed clocks," said David Fritz, vice president of marketing at Silistix. "Designers can ... use Silistix provided adaptors to interface existing synchronous IP blocks to CHAIN networks thereby leveraging existing design work."
