Cliff Robertson: Jobs
built 636 days ago
During that period, trying desperately to get a job as an actor, and still eat, young Cliff worked as a longshoreman, private detective, newspaper writer, bus boy, and radio announcer. He appeared in small stock companies all over New York and New England, finally getting his first break in Mr. Roberts. From then on he was a "working actor," who appeared in more than 100 television dramas, and several Broadway plays. While in Wisteria Trees, with Helen Haves, he was seen and cast in the film version of Picnic.

After a number of other films in the early 1970s, including supporting performances in two solid box-office hits, Midway andThree Days of the Condor, Robertson had few jobs for more than three years during his blacklisting. He resumed his career in the 1980s... with supporting roles in Douglas Trumbull's Brainstorm and Bob Fosse's Star 80 (portraying Playboy founder Hugh Hefner), among other film and television assignments. Robertson now seems well on his way back toward starring roles which call for quiet determination, evident authority, and understated intensity.
