Well, at least the Cleveland Cavaliers fans had something to cheer about tonight. In the pre-game ceremonies before the game, the Cavaliers did something they had never done in franchise history: Raise a banner that celebrated the 2006-2007 Eastern Conference Championship. Unfortunately for the 20,000 plus fans that attended the game, that was about all that was worth cheering about as the Cavaliers soundly defeated by the Dallas Mavericks 92-74.
The Cleveland Cavaliers joined the NBA as an expansion franchise for the 1970-71 season. While the team started off extremely slow, they found success at their peak in 1975-1976, when they won the Central Division Title in what was called the "Miracle of Richfield", in which the Cavaliers won several playoff games with buzzer-beating shots. Eventually, the team fell to the bottom of the league when Ted Stepien bought the team in 1980. It took at least half a decade before the team would rise again. Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, and Larry Nance helped the Cavs to considerable success in the late 1980s and early 1990s but the team found it impossible to reach the championship thanks, in part, to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. When Cleveland's fortune changed by drafting superstar forward LeBron James, the team went on an upward stroll to the tops of the NBA, eventually reaching the 2007 NBA Finals, but then being swept by the San Antonio Spurs.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have never won an NBA title nor have they won a Conference title. They have won only one Division title in their 35 seasons. The Cavs joined the NBA in 1970 as an expansion team. They posted a league low, 15 wins during their inagural 1970-71 season. The team gradually improved under head coach Bill Fitch and made the playoffs for the first time and won their first and only division title in 1976. The Cavs made the playoffs three times in a row from 1976 through 1978 but lost each trip to the playoffs before reaching the NBA Finals.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were founded in 1970. They play in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. Although they have no NBA Championships in their history their future is looking up as long as Lebron James remains a Cav. Behind a strong effort by Lebron the Cavaliers advanced to the playoffs in the 2005-06 season for the 1st time since the 1997-98 season. The Cavs have qualified for the 2006-07 playoffs.
