Clay Aiken's third album, A Thousand Different Ways, sold over 205,000 copies in its first week of release, securing a No. 2 debut on the Billboard album chart. It is Clay's third consecutive debut inside the top five. Measure of a Man entered at No. 1 and Merry Christmas With Love bowed at No. 4. Clay is the 4th artist ever to have his first 3 albums debut Top 5 and scan over 200,000 in the first week.

Clay Aiken's A Thousand Different Ways could use a few new ways to sell CDs, as it bade farewell to the top 10 this week, falling from No. 8 to No. 20 on next week's Billboard album chart. To achieve this, it sold 39,000 copies last week, compared to 74,000 the previous week and 211,000 its first week out. Its total: 325,000 (rounded up), leaving its potential to reach gold (500,000) in some degree of doubt.

That same month, Aiken\'s debut single, "This Is the Night," made history by going number one on Billboard\'s Hot 100 chart. It sold more than 392,000 copies during its first week, beating Elton John\'s record for "Candle in the Wind 1997." In October 2003, Aiken issued his studio full-length, The Measure of a Man. Once again, the little guy with the big voice made a big splash. The Measure of a Man sold 613,000 copies and went to number one on Billboard\'s Top 200 during its first week of release. His first holiday effort Merry Christmas With Love followed in November 2004. The album debuted at number one on Billboard\'s Top Holiday Albums chart, giving Merry Christmas With Love the biggest debut week sales figures for a Christmas album in SoundScan history. Aiken released A Thousand Different Ways in September of 2006.

The new chart numbers are in, and despite a somewhat down-to-the-wire finish, Justin Timberlake eked past Clay Aiken to stay atop the Billboard albums ranking this week. Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds sold 217,000 copies, while Aiken's A Thousand Different Ways moved 205,000 copies. more
