Clay Aiken was born November 30, 1978 and grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. From a young age, Aiken always wanted to perform for people and he did with different musical performances and being a part of the Raleigh Boys Choir. When it came time to go to college Aiken was planning on studying special education but instead he auditioned and became part of the phenomenon known as American Idol. After the show ended, Aiken got a record deal with RCA and in 2003 released his debut album The Measure of a Man which went number one in its first week. Clay Aiken (born Clayton Holmes Grissom on November 30, 1978) is an American pop singer who rose to fame on the second season of the television program American Idol in 2003. RCA Records offered him a recording contract and his debut album Measure of a Man was released in October 2003. Based on album sales, he has become the most successful second-place finisher in that show's history. Aiken ... has the second highest total CD sales out of all the American Idol alumni.
