Internet classified ads do not typically use per-line pricing models, so they tend to be longer. They are ... more readily searchable unlike their offline brethren, tend to be local, and may foster a greater sense of urgency as a result of their daily structure and wider scope for audiences. Because of their self-policing nature and low cost structures, some companies offer free classifieds such as Craigslist in the US, as well as Kijiji and Gumtree internationally. Other companies focus mainly on their local hometown region, while others blanket urban areas by using zip codes. Craigslist.org was one of the first online classified sites, and has grown to become the largest classified source, bringing in over 14 million unique visitors a month according to comScore Media Metrix. A number of online services called Aggregators crawl and aggregate classifieds from sources such as blogs and RSS feeds, as opposed to relying on manually submitted listings.

CraigsList - - online classified ads on sterioids - apartments, personals, collectibles, etc. It started in San Francisco, and now covers every state in the U.S., province in Canada, and many countries. Of most interest to job seekers are the BOTH the "jobs" and the "gigs." [Gigs are short-term jobs.] Be careful - in most cities, the ads are free, so you may find many bogus listings. These are unique classified ads that aren't in print anywhere and are not pulled in to any of the "aggregator" sites (like Indeed.com or Oodle.com, below). Craig's List ads are in reverse chronological order - newest first, oldest last, organized by date within category. Don't post your resume here unless you convert it to a cyber-safe version of your resume!

There oughta be a law making it mandatory to feed classified ads. Craigslist, which has long been RSSable, is killing newspapers across the country. Indeed job listings are ... available as feeds, almost eliminating the need to visit the sites or subscribe to mailings from HotJobs, Monster, and other job boards. This represents a tremendous degree of lost branding opportunity and will only contribute to the demise of those who don't get with the program.
