Class actions lawsuits aren't brought to bring large rewards to the litigants. They are brought to hold corporations responsible for their decisions and to force them to act in the interest of public safety. As such, it is clear that class action litigation plays a critically important role in a democracy and free market that desires smaller government and as little regulation as possible.

Goto to Millberg's main site http://www.milberg.com and read the number of class action lawsuites they have filed, it is almost ridiculous. They have even filed a class action lawsuit against K-mart for failing to cover prescription contraceptives. ("The complaint, filed in the Northern District of Georgia by Milberg Weiss, Heller Horowitz & Feit, P.C., the Law Offices of George Stein and the National Women’s Law Center, alleges that it is an unlawful employment practice to exclude prescription contraceptive coverage while including coverage for other prescription drugs.

In addition, among other things, the Mississippi Baptist class action lawsuit describes Defendant Baptist as counterfeit; it charges that Defendant Baptist functions as “for-profit” business.  It makes clear that while Defendant Baptist garnishes the wages of its uninsured patients it compensates and/or contributes excess “six figure” incomes to many of its executives including $763,000 to its President and CEO for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2002 and at least $672,000 in compensation for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2003.
