Claritin... known as Loratadine, is an antihistamine indicated for the relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose. Claritin treats hay fever symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1993 and made by Schering-Plough, Claritin is supplied in tablet, syrup and reditab form.

Claritin (Claratyne) or loratadine is an antihistamine. It provides effective relief from seasonal allergy symptoms: itchy, watery eyes, itchy palate, sneezing, runny nose. Drowsiness may occur if you take more than the recommended dose. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking dosages other than the recommended dose.

Luckily, the manufacturers and the CDC as well as the FDA got together and did some research to find out if Claritin is safe for women to take during pregnancy. An extensive amount of research and drug trials were done and the results said conclusively that Claritin does not cause birth defects or problems in the pregnancy. This does not mean that Claritin is the preferred antihistamine for you to take during pregnancy, but for some women it’s not a choice.
