(Charleston-AP) Jan. 9, 2005 - Brigadier General Emory Mace says he is ready to retire as Commandant at The Citadel. Mace has been third-in-command at the school for eight years. He told the school's board of visitors Saturday he accomplished what he came to do: Help men and women cadets coexist at the formerly all-male college.

Several cadets will be on hand to take your questions if you would like student perspective on Rosa's arrival or his vision for The Citadel. Any PAO staffer at the inauguration can assist you. Look for the PAO staffers wearing blue Citadel identification badges.
Although Faulkner won her battle to enroll as a cadet at The Citadel, she dropped out after less than a week. She said the stress of fighting for 2 1/2 years to win entry and her feelings of isolation on campus had taken a toll on her health.
