Others argue that the right of a child to bodily integrity takes precedence over parental preference or religious custom or that freedom of religion only applies to personal belief, and circumcision should not be imposed on minors. Female genital cutting is prohibited in most western countries, and has come under criticism in the parts of the world where it is customary. Sweden has restricted male infant circumcision. [22]

[F]or a person that loves Yahweh and keeps His commandments and laws (1 Jo.5:2,3), circumcision is profitable. Why? Because it is a seal of the righteousness of one's faith (Rom.4:11). Indeed, whenever any parent obeys Yahweh and circumcises his son on the eighth day he is demonstrating or sealing the righteousness of his faith.

Many parents are led to believe that circumcision is safer than leaving the penis in its natural form. Your Childs Health by Barton Schmitt reports one out of every 500 circumcisions results in a serious complication. Many things can go wrong including hemorrhage, infections and damage to the penis. Much of the harm of circumcision does not become apparent until adulthood.

If some ADULTS want circumcision as part of this process, they should have it. The challenge then is how to maintain the responsibility on the adult individual, the only place where it can work. The danger is that the temptation will be to shift the decision from the individual to someone else, such as doctors and parents. Ethically, that is the wrong path to take, and ultimately another ill-effect of the virus, but which is within the power of humans to avoid.

Many insurances no longer cover the costs of circumcision. Their reasoning is that, unless there are medical reasons, it is a cosmetic surgery. This means that parents must pay for the circumcision out of their own pockets. Be sure to check with your insurance company on what you would pay out of pocket should you decide on this surgery for your son.

There is no specific reference to male circumcision in the Hindu holy books. It can be assumed on that basis that the decision is left to the individual or the parents (in case of a minor). However, conservative Hindus oppose the practice of male child circumcision on the grounds that it is against the will of God and a barbaric act of cruelty on the child [9].
