Circumcision: Men
built 643 days ago
Circumcision does not eradicate sexual pleasure. Men and women still get sexually aroused, masurbate and have orgasms. However, lust is obviously even more under pressure and relegated to private life than is the case in more modern parts of the world. In circumcised women, more even than in men, lust becomes associated with pain and suffering, of which child bearing is the natural and logical consequence. This process may be said to be pre-programmed genetically and socially, because it goes back to time immemorial, and is ... still very much in evidence among the majority of more modern females.

Circumcision is commanded in Genesis 17:10-14 as an outward sign of a man's participation in Israel's covenant with God, as well as a sign that the Jewish people will perpetuate through him. The commandment is incumbent upon both father and child - fathers must see that their sons are circumcised, and uncircumcised grown men are obligated to perform the rite.

Simon Peter, who for Catholic Christians is the first Pope, condemned circumcision for converts according to Acts 15:7-10. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, warned that the advocates of circumcision were "false brothers". (Gal. 2:4) When the various passages from the New Testament regarding circumcision are gathered together, a strongly negative view of circumcision emerges. [5] Some Biblical scholars think that the Epistle of Titus, generally attributed to Paul, may state that circumcision should be discouraged among Christians (Titus 1:10-16), though others believe this is merely a reference to Jews. Circumcision was so closely associated with Jewish men that Jewish Christians were referred to as "those of the circumcision" (e.g. Colossians 3:20) [6] or conversely Christians who were circumcised were referred to as Jewish Christians or Judaizers.

Islam stresses circumcision as a form of natural hygiene. It is mentioned in some parts of the Hadith, but not in the Qur'an. Fiqh scholars have different opinions about circumcision in Shariah, depending on which Hadith are accepted and how they are interpreted. According to Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik and a majority of others it is a recommended practice (Sunnah), but others, including Imam Shafi, consider it obligatory. The timing of Muslim circumcision varies. Some Muslim communities perform circumcision on the eighth day of life, as with Jews, while others perform the rite later.

Paul ... warned the Philippians about the circumcision advocates. "Watch out for those dogs," he said, using Jewish slang for gentiles in reference to the Judaizers (Philippians 3:2). They are evil men, "mutilators of the flesh" — a Greek view of the rite of circumcision. But the Spirit wars against the flesh; Paul emphasizes that the physical rite, at least to the Greek mind, takes away from its spiritual meaning. It is believers who are the true circumcision — all "who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh" (verse 3). Paul himself was circumcised (verse 5), but he counted it as loss for the sake of Christ (verse 7-8).
