Circumcision: Male Circumcision
built 629 days ago
Circumcision is the oldest known surgical procedure and most widely spread religious and social custom in the world. An initiatory rite of Judaism, circumcision is ... practiced by Muslims, for whom it signifies spiritual purification. Although its origins are unknown, earliest evidence of the practice dates from ancient Egypt, where it is thought to have been used originally to mark male slaves. By the time of the Roman takeover of Egypt (30 BC), the practice had a ritual significance, and only circumcised priests could perform certain religious rites. In the United States, Canada, Australia and throughout the Middle East and Africa, circumcision is still performed routinely on boys from infancy to adolescence.

Circumcision is one of the oldest operations performed. Sometimes it is done because a specific problem with the foreskin (prepuce) exists, and other times it is done for family, cultural, or religious reasons. Although routine circumcision was once advocated for all newborn males, the current feeling is that it is not necessary for all baby boys. Most boys will do fine later in life if their foreskins are not removed. A few may eventually need circumcision because of narrowing at the tip (phimosis), infections (posthitis), or irritation. The foreskin may be a source for urinary tract infections, and circumcision may be a good idea in boys with any underlying kidney abnormality.

Circumcision is not medically necessary. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not recommend circumcision as a routine procedure for newborn males. When making this policy, the AAP considered the possible health benefits of circumcision, such as a lower risk for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in the first year of life. The AAP ... considered the risks and costs of the procedure when making this policy.2
Circumcision is not medically necessary. The Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) does not recommend circumcision as a routine procedure for newborn males. When making this policy, the CPS considered the possible health benefits of circumcision, such as a lower risk for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in the first year of life. The CPS ... considered the risks and costs of the procedure when making this policy.1
Circumcision is ... used by God as a teaching mechanism, a visual aid to provide a picture of regeneration by faith. The circumcision of male children on the 8th day was an act of dedication by the parents. By this means they declared that they would teach salvation by faith to their children. They anticipated that their children would become believers.

Circumcision is viewed as an entry to adulthood and a licence to sexual promiscuity, which results in AIDS. Similarly, lack of sexual satisfaction due to the relatively insensitive circumcised penis promotes male promiscuity in search of sexual fulfilment. Circumcision has clearly no medical indication, and remains a cultural, call it religious, practice to control sexuality by amputating a sensitive part of the human penis. (The foreskin has nerve endings and the inner layer is as sensitive as the inner layer of the eye lids or cheeks) and de-sensitizes (by continous exposure) the glans. Moreover, circumcision, far from being a health measure, is itself a very unhealthy procedure, resulting in high incidences of complications such as infection ,bleeding, removal of too much skin, partial amputation of glans and damage to the urethra. In fact, meatal stenosis occurs in only circumcised boys and is referred as the "second circumcision"!
