Cipro: Antibiotics
built 488 days ago
Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) is an antibiotic used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria. Cipro tablets and suspension (liquid) are used to treat pneumonia (lung infection); bronchitis (infection of the tubes that lead to the lungs); some types of gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted disease); diarrhea caused by bacteria; typhoid fever (a contagious illness common in developing countries); and bone, joint, skin, prostate (a male reproductive gland), sinus, and urinary tract (bladder) infections. Cipro is ... used to prevent and/or treat anthrax in people exposed to anthrax germs in the air. Cipro is also used with another medication to treat certain infections of the internal organs. Cipro extended release (long-acting) tablets are used to treat urinary tract and kidney infections. Cipro is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones.

Cipro The antibiotic Cipro can ... be generically prescribed as ciprofloxacin, and is part of the group of medications known clinically as fluoroquinolones. Cipro is most often used to treat bacterial infections in the body, as antibiotics are ineffective at treating other types of infections such as viral or fungal infections.

Cipro may be taken with or without meals but is best tolerated when taken 2 hours after a meal. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication to prevent crystals from forming in your urine. Cipro, like other antibiotics, works best when there is a constant amount in the blood and urine. To help keep the level constant, try not to miss any doses, and take them at evenly spaced intervals around the clock. If you are taking the suspension, be sure to shake the bottle vigorously for 15 seconds before each dose. Swallow without chewing the microcapsules in the suspension.
As demand for Cipro skyrocketed in the general population, researchers have been warning about antibiotics' side effects. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics, they add, can lead to the growth of bacteria in the body that are resistant to drugs.

Cipro is a member of the quinolone group of antibiotics, prescribed to treat bacterial infections of the abdomen, bones, urinary tract skin and lower respiratory system. Health officials prescribe Cipro to combat bronchial infections, typhoid fever, prostate gland infections and tuberculosis.
