The Cingular agreement gives RadioShack an entree into the GSM protocol, the global standard in wireless phones. The Sprint agreement gives the company continuity with a CDMA protocol provider, building upon the 10-year relationship RadioShack has had with Sprint, along with the introduction of IDEN technology through Nextel.

AT&T Mobility was known as Cingular until 2007. Cingular was formed by the merger of BellSouth Wireless and SBC Wireless in 2001. Cingular then acquired AT&T Wireless in 2004. Cingular's parent companies SBC and BellSouth then merged with each other, and with AT&T (not AT&T Wireless). The company's current wireless network uses GSM/GPRS technology. The company uses both the cellular (850 MHz) and PCS (1900 MHz) bands.

While the AT&T logo will be prominent in all advertising and communications, the ads will initially include a transitional graphic with both the AT&T and Cingular logos. The co-branded element will help underscore the association of the two companies and transfer Cingular's strong brand equity to the new AT&T. During the transition, the campaign will integrate popular imagery, phrases and icons from Cingular's traditional advertising, including the "raising the bar" tag line, the "Jack" character and the color orange.
