Cingular claims HSDPA is now available within134 markets with populations of 100,000 or more, but the carrier’s 3G footprint isn’t nearly as large as the EV-DO networks offered by Sprint (220 markets) and Verizon Wireless (212 markets). On the other hand, there are 72 commercial HSDPA deployments worldwide, which makes the 8525 a better choice for world travelers.

As part of this effort, AT&T Mobility will charge a $4.99 monthly fee to those customers who still use D-AMPS-based phones. As of March 31, 2007 Cingular (now AT&T Mobility) no longer supported the TDMA technology for its GoPhone (pre-paid) customers.
