   The London Symphony Orchestra is the first independent, self-governing orchestra in Britain. It was created in 1904 and has long enjoyed the reputation of being one of the three or four greatest orchestras in the world. It is responsible for a lot of “firsts” in British Musical history including being the first orchestra to tour, a tradition it continues to this day. The LSO can be found abroad in visits across Europe and in the USA, where it holds an additional residency at Avery Fisher Hall in New York and a biennial residency at the Florida International Festival. Some of the more famous accomplishments of the LSO can be found in their work on such films as Legends of the Fall, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

   There are so many different manners in which one can approach feminist art. The subjects covered here are only a start to what is available on this subject matter. Lesbian art, art based on female genitalia, Female Labor, and many more subjects can be examined. All are fascinating, because to see what artists felt in the Victorian period as compared to what artists feel now is a great learning experience. Feminist art has come a long way from the Victorian period, but not yet reached its destination. While freedom of expression is much more available today than it was then, there are still stigmas put on certain art forms and subject matter.

   A more fanciful sort of modern art was created by Jean Arp, Marcel Duchamp, and Kurt Schwitters in the irreverent manifestations of the Dada movement. Dada artists devised “ready-mades” and collage objects from diverse bits of material. The movement was linked with Freudianism in the 1920s, producing the wild imagery of surrealism and verism, as seen in the paintings of Salvador Dalí, Yves Tanguy, Max Ernst, and Joan Miró. The 1920s ... saw the beginning of an art of social protest by exponents of new objectivity, among them George Grosz, Otto Dix, and Max Beckmann. With the rise of fascism and the Great Depression of the 1930s, the protest increased in intensity. The Mexicans Orozco, Rivera, and Siqueiros painted murals in which the human figure was made monumental and heroic (see Mexican art and architecture).

   The Feminist Art Project is a national initiative celebrating women’s contributions to art and the Feminist Art Movement. Organizations and individuals are invited to participate by listing exhibitions, symposia, publications, courses, and other events or programs on their web national calendar. Many of these events mark historic anniversaries, including the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Women’s Caucus for Art. The project ... supports archival initiatives to assure that women’s contributions to contemporary art are included in the cultural and historical records.

    The London Impressionist and Modern Art sales led the market earlier this month with a total of $285.0 million, up 20% from the prior year, with the evening sale recording the highest total ever for any sale in Sotheby's Europe. The top lot, Franz Marc's Weidende Pferde III, sold for $24.3 million, the highest price for an Impressionist or Modern work so far in 2008. The average lot value of the evening sale was $4.3 million with 70% of the 67 lots sold achieving $1 million or more.
